A Balancing Act
Balance is one of the most important reasons businesses
thrive in Ulster County – the ability to work hard and play
in an environment that inspires and empowers us. We recognize how
fortunate we are with natural splendors like the Hudson River and
the Catskill Mountains and natural resources which provide four-season
recreation within minutes of home. One of our greatest challenges
is to protect and nurture our environment.
In Ulster County, we successfully help agriculture,
technology, galleries, manufacturing, tourism and finance all grow
within our borders. We accomplish this with smart, planned and cooperative
growth strategies which result in greater work productivity, the
ability to attract and retain our workforce, tremendous strides
in the development of an quality, balanced environment.
Our communities are adopting land-use and environment
strategies that will benefit economic development and the environment
for the long-term. With support from the Hudson Valley Greenway,
a New York State-sponsored program created to assist the region
preserve scenic, natural, historic, cultural, and recreational resources,
our communities work to preserve the local character, encourage
economic development through adaptive reuse, and designate areas
for appropriate development.
We believe that the quality of our environment is
a sign of our economic health. Here are some regional partners that
support our efforts:
