08.23.10 Mega Mixer Draws Crowd Print E-mail

waterfront mixer 2010 a 080-1Kingston - The Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce held their first ever "Mega Mixer" last week, which attracted more than 500 people to Kingston's historic waterfront district.

The Rondout has been a central commerce hub in Kingston for more than 400 years, even since Henry Hudson sailed what would become his namesake river and settlers discovered the Rondout Creek.  Its diverse industrial past has included bluestone , limestone, cement and other materials shipped through its port.  Today, the area is akin to "Brooklyn on the Hudson" with town homes, brownstones, cafes, shops, an organic market, restaurant and bars, and an eclectic art scene.

The mixer brought together Ulster County's business community.  The photo to the right is of, from left to right: Steve Finkle, Director, City of Kingston Economic Development Department; Tom Collins, Commercial Associates commercial realtors; Paul Rakov, UCDC Director of Business Development; Lisa Berger, Director of Marketing, UlsterCountyAlive.com; Joe Fitzgerald, realtor, caterer, board member of Kingston Farmers Market (Joe wears many hats!).

Vincent Cozzolino, co-CEO of the consortium, said the pace is picking up as some of the new companies have begun to work with each other, creating a synergy that is building upon itself. His nonprofit group facilitates and sometimes helps fund the location or growth of solar-oriented companies.

Most of the notable successes in job creation have been in the Hudson Valley, with several in Ulster County and some in Dutchess as well, Cozzolino said.
