KINGSTON – Congressman Maurice Hinchey made another stop at a small business, Monday, to see how it is faring in the continued economic slowdown and to discuss and promote federal incentives. Late last week, Hinchey toured another small business in Newburgh for the same purpose. Monday’s stop brought him to R&F Handmade Paints in Kingston, which he said is benefiting from several new tax credits and incentives designed to help small businesses hire new workers and provide health insurance to their employees. “Small businesses are an essential engine for job creation and growth in our economy,” he said. “The entrepreneurs who take the risks and put in hours to create the majority of new jobs took a major hit when the financial system collapsed, and this is something we have to deal with and overcome it.” Hinchey said over 15,000 small businesses in his congressional district will be eligible to claim the tax credit for a portion of employee health care benefits beginning with their 2010 tax returns. That percentage will increase from 35 percent to 50 percent starting in 2014. |
